With Rockpool on George now relocated to Bridge St, what becomes of the ‘everything’ left behind? Well much of it goes under the hammer and will be auctioned on site at 107 George St, The Rocks by Tim O’Mara of O’Mara’s Valuers and Auctioneers, Thursday 21 November at 10.30am.
Items available include the tables, the iconic Rockpool chairs, lighting, artwork, décor, bar and extensive kitchen equipment.
The original restaurant design was by D4 Design in the late ‘80s, with a refurbishment done by Bill MacMahon and Michael Scott-Mitchell (formerly of D4) in 2002. Bates Smart Architects handled any design changes from 2007 onwards. The chairs were made especially for the restaurant – D4 Design chairs, by Stephen Roberts.
Items can be inspected between 8am and 4pm on the 20th of November and from 8am on the auction day. A gallery of photographs and descriptions is also available at www.omaras.com.au
Where possible, kitchen items will be left in their original positions, connected to power and in an operational state so they can be tested by potential purchasers.
O’Maras is managing the auction and will use the state-of-the-art website portal, Proxibid, to attract bidders who can’t make it in person. The result will be a live onsite auction with online bidders from around the world.
“A live webcast auction is a combination of a traditional onsite auction with full online participation in real time. The system also allows us to accept pre bids prior to the live auction start,” said Tim O’Mara, Managing Director of O’Maras.
The Rockpool auction is expected to generate a lot of interest with local buyers. Interested parties who cannot attend the Rockpool auction can register for bidding from the week prior to the auction at www.omaras.com.au
